This multi-institutional team brings expertise in plant pathology, entomology, epidemiology, and integrated pest management across major soybean-growing regions.

The Soybean Research Area Committee (RAC) serves as the primary scientific oversight and prioritization body for predictive modeling research on soybean diseases and insect pests within the NPMTI.

Successes to Date

The RAC launched rapidly, building on two pre-existing, validated soybean disease models for white mold and frogeye leaf spot. Additional datasets for Cercospora leaf blight (CLB) and other emerging diseases provide a strong foundation for expanding predictive capabilities.

Current and Future Projects

The RAC is focused on improving existing models for white mold and frogeye leaf spot, developing a predictive model for Cercospora leaf blight, and incorporating a winter-weather-based insect survival tool. Projects employ multi-state field experiments, pathogen and insect monitoring, aerial and satellite imagery, and weather-based modeling to improve precision, sustainability, and in-season decision-making. Outputs will be disseminated through the Crop Protection Network (CPN) to maximize national reach and adoption.

Future Plans

The RAC will continue refining predictive models, integrating new disease and insect datasets, and expanding tools for next-generation, data-driven pest management. By promoting workforce development, capacity building, and adoption of digital agriculture solutions, the Soybean RAC advances agricultural innovation, economic competitiveness, climate-smart practices, and resilient food systems, ensuring soybean producers are equipped with actionable, science-based tools to optimize inputs, reduce losses, and sustain profitable production.
